Bahrain has made its debut in the World Digital Competitiveness Rankings 2022 issued by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) World Competitiveness Centre.
Inclusion in the rankings solidifies the kingdom’s commitment to developing a globally competitive digital ecosystem.
Bahrain has ranked among the top 15 countries in 14 criteria measured in the report, reflecting a robust digital infrastructure and a talented workforce.
The kingdom has established a strong infrastructure to enable digital transformation across all sectors.
Bahrain ranks first among the Arab countries and sixth globally in ‘Investment in Telecommunications’.
Cybersecurity is another area where the kingdom performed competitively ranking 11th globally.
Further, the country ranked 14th in ‘Communication Technology’ which measures perception of how much communications technology meets business requirements.
In terms of uptake, Bahrain ranked fourth globally in both number of mobile broadband subscribers as well as Internet users.
As a testament to its talented workforce, the kingdom came in the 13th position globally in ‘Digital/Technological’ skills.
Further, Bahrain ranked in the top 20 in multiple workforce-related criteria including: ‘Women in Degrees’ ranking third, seventh in terms of international experience of senior managers, 13th in attitudes towards globalisation, and 19th in terms of the number of female researchers.
All of these factors contributed to the kingdom ranking 13th in the talent subfactor covering the aforementioned areas and more.
The Digital Competitiveness Rankings 2022 assess 63 countries based on a total of 54 criteria clustered into nine sub-factors and three main factors.
The criteria are reliant on both hard data and survey responses from an executive opinion survey that was disseminated to mid-top-level managers in the private sector.
