A labourer has been accused of selling drugs and hiding his stash inside dresser drawers in his home.
The 33-year-old Bangladeshi had his first court hearing at the High Criminal Court.
He was arrested in a sting operation in the Isa Town area where the defendant allegedly sold BD200 worth of marijuana to an undercover Interior Ministry official.
An anti-narcotics directorate policeman who was in charge of the operation gave his testimony to the Public Prosecution.
“I received secret information about an individual who was selling marijuana in different areas of the country,” said the 28-year-old.
“The secret source then reached out to the defendant and the two set up a meeting where they would exchange the contraband for BD200.
“They met near the Shaikha Shaikha bint Naser Al Suwaidi mosque in Jurdab, and the exchange was done while both parties were in their cars.
“The source passed the cash through the car window and received a cardboard box containing an herb.”
The officer added that after catching the suspect allegedly red-handed, a search of his living quarters yielded a nylon bag of the narcotics.
The stock of narcotics was reportedly all stashed away inside drawers. Policemen found two sensitive scales and small and plastic bags.
Court documents state that the defendant who lives in Muharraq admitted the charges to prosecutors.
The trial was adjourned to Sunday.
