Southern Tourism Company, a subsidiary of Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat, has signed a logistics transport agreement with Nass Corporation to transport machinery and equipment weighing more than 100,000 tonnes to Hawar Islands.
The agreement signing took place at Nass headquarters, in the presence of Southern Tourism Company chief executive Yusuf Al Manea and Nass Corporation chief executive Shawqi Al Hashimi.
According to the agreement, Southern Tourism Company will extend logistics services to Nass to transport machinery and equipment to Hawar Islands for the renovation project of Hawar Hotel, which is being developed by Mumtalakat’s real estate arm, Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company (Edamah).
Ahmed Al Aseeri, chairman of Southern Tourism Company and the representative of Mumtalakat, said: “We are pleased to work with Nass Corporation. Through this agreement, Southern Tourism Company will contribute to the success of the Hawar islands development project by transporting the machinery and equipment required to rebuild Hawar Hotel, which is being developed by Edamah. This reflects Mumtalakat’s commitment to enhancing the contribution of its local portfolio companies to the national economy in line with the kingdom’s economic priorities.”
Adding to the comments of the chairman, Mr Al Manea said: “The signing of this agreement is a major milestone for Southern Tourism Company in terms of the expansion in the logistics operations. In line with the company’s strategy to extend our services in the logistics transportation field, we recently increased our operational capacity which enabled us to handle such large and complex projects.”
Southern Tourism Company was established in 2000. The company owns the largest passenger fleet in Bahrain providing passenger transport services to and from Hawar Islands, it also handles the operations of loading and unloading cargo from ships in all territorial waters of the kingdom.
Headquartered in Al Dur Marina, Southern Tourism Company also provides transportation services to the government sector, including BDF, EWA, and Hawar Beach Hotel.
