Bahrain has thanked Gulf, Arab and Islamic organisations and human rights watchdogs for supporting the kingdom and rejecting the European Parliament’s resolution regarding human rights.
In a statement yesterday, the Foreign Ministry urged full commitment to the UN Charter, stressing particularly respect of the principle of good neighbourliness and non-interference in internal affairs. It also pointed to the pivotal role of the GCC in maintaining regional stability, achieving prosperity and protecting Gulf unity.
The ministry urged commitment to the principles enshrined in Al Ula Statement Communique, and emphasised the importance of harnessing efforts to support Gulf unity.
While valuing the legislative and political role of the European Parliament, the ministry said the resolution relied on inaccurate and misleading information aimed at defaming Bahrain.
“The resolution was passed immediately after the European Parliament began investigating cases of corruption that stirred up public opinion, the European and international media,” it said, noting that accusations were levelled against a number of parliamentarians in connection with Qatar.
