MP Mariam Al Sayegh released a statement on Instagram saying that she was proud of the national cadres and didn’t mean to insult anyone or disrespect any profession.
“All I wanted to convey is that Bahrainis deserve to be in a job that matches their aspirations, with an income that supports a dignified life,” she said.
“I hope we can focus on the issue that many young Bahraini job-seekers face as no one wishes to be a cashier – even those with high school degrees accept the lowest option out of dire need for a job.”
She claimed that jobs at ministries and government authorities were given to expatriates while ‘lowly jobs’ are left for citizens.
Priority must be given to Bahraini citizens, she added.
