A FATHER who tried to kill his naughty teenage son by cutting his head off using an electric chainsaw has been jailed for life.
Upset by his ‘bad behaviour’, the 46-year-old retired Bahraini slashed out at the 14-year-old, lopping off part of his fingers and causing injuries to his head and chest.
He was jailed for 25 years for attempted murder by the High Criminal Court yesterday after judges heard the child was attacked because he had been found smoking at school.
“The defendant carried out this heinous crime and attempted to kill his own son,” read the court ruling. “He performed his devilish plan and entered the victim’s bedroom, who he knew was asleep and could probably not defend himself.
“The defendant attempted to sever off his son’s head. However, he couldn’t due to the victim resisting him. The child still suffered injuries to his head and chest and parts of his fingers were cut off as he tried to fight back.
“The defendant was found guilty of the charges due to sufficient evidence against him.”
Earlier, the judges accepted the defendant’s lawyer’s request to send the father for a mental evaluation to the Psychiatric Hospital. A report which was submitted to the court at a previous hearing said that the man was mentally fit and should be held accountable for his actions.
The cruel parent initially told prosecutors that he had bought two chainsaws as he planned to hack his elder son to death in July last year, according to court documents.
He added that he changed his mind after his son promised to live a more ‘virtuous life’. But he went back to his original plan after his wife informed him that their son had been suspended from school for smoking cigarettes.
On November 8 last year, the father attacked his son using one of the chainsaws at the family home in A’ali.
The boy ended up in a critical condition in hospital fighting for his life. He is now being looked after by his mother.
Video footage of the aftermath of the attack was posted on social media by a private account showing bloodstains on a carpet and bed. Images of the victim, covered in blood, were attached to court documents as evidence.
