SEPARATE safety campaigns have been carried out in the Muharraq and Northern governorates.
Farm owners and workers were taught about safety under a drive conducted by the Muharraq Police Directorate in co-operation with the Civil Defence.
The campaign aimed to provide workers with educational and preventative instructions in the event of fires.
The need for safety equipment on farms, and knowing how to use them were also highlighted.
Posters on security and safety measures in case of accidents were distributed in different languages.
Workers were also instructed on the proper disposal of agricultural waste.
Separately, a campaign to inspect shops that trade in scrap materials and used spare parts was conducted by the Southern Governorate Police Directorate, in co-operation with the Southern Municipality.
It was also aimed at checking if proprietors were following health and safety regulations, and spreading awareness about those issues.
The owners were educated about the importance of following laws relevant to their areas of commercial activity, the need to instal security cameras and how to satisfy the safety requirements.
Several violations were recorded, according to a statement yesterday, and legal procedures have been carried out to deal with the violating shops.
