The Shura Council has approved plans to join the latest US space programme which envisages the landing of the first woman on the moon next year – hoping that it’s a Bahraini woman.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) announced the Artemis Accords in October 2020 for lunar exploration and beyond, with participation of both international partners and commercial players.
The Shura approval, during its weekly session yesterday (May 28), comes as Bahrain gears up to launch two massive space projects that would put the kingdom’s name on the moon.
The council’s public utilities and environment committee chairman Dr Mohammed Hassan said that among the goals of the accord is sending the first woman to the moon, and hoped that the woman is a Bahraini.
