PREPARATIONS are in full swing to inaugurate a large public garden along a coast in the north of the country.
The Barbar Park, which is on a 5,700sqm plot of land within an area of 18,451sqm owned by the Northern Municipality designated as a garden, features a shaded games area for children, rubber flooring and a walkway.
According to reports earlier, a swimming pool and a dedicated sports area – both on an area of 5,000sqm – are also a major part of the project.
A joint meeting to discuss organisational and administrative measures to expedite the opening of the park was held between Northern Municipal Council chairman Dr Sayed Shubbar Al Wedaei and Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry’s project management acting director Mohammed Salman along with engineers and officials.
“The role played by the community in preserving order, contributing to guidance and protecting the components of the park from tampering and vandalism are critical,” said Dr Al Wedaei in a statement yesterday.
“The community has the right to reap the fruits of this achievement which allows for recreational activities and walking within a natural atmosphere.
“The joint meeting shows the keenness of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak to expedite the launch as well as provide the best services.
“A tour was held to identify the gaps that must be addressed to prevent irregular entry into the park when closed as well as to determine the procedural requirements.”
Emphasis was placed on providing a suitable and safe environment for children especially in light of the summer holidays.
This will allow children to visit the park to in indulge in sport and recreational activities in a safe manner.
“It was agreed that instructions will be put up at the entrance of the park to encourage visitors to preserve the recreational features of the park,” added Dr Al Wedaei.
“A sufficient number of guards and surveillance cameras are also necessary to provide the required protection while taking into account finding a system that factors in the neighbours’ need for comfort.”
The GDN previously reported that the park will include green areas, various trees and shaded seating areas as well as various sports facilities in the garden.
It will also include 62 parking spots.
