A RESTAURANT in the Northern Governorate has been shut down for multiple violations regarding the storing, cooking and selling of food … although a rumour that it was dishing out dog meat has been dismissed as fantasy.
Cockroaches, improperly stored frozen meats and overall unhygienic storage facilities were registered at the unlicensed outlet in Budaiya.
It was formally closed down by the Industry and Commerce Ministry yesterday.
Inspectors carried forward the closure following a complaint submitted by a concerned citizen through the ministry’s official channels.
“There were rumours that the restaurant in Budaiya served dog meat and I followed this up with the concerned officials and they reaffirmed that the claims were untrue,” said area councillor Mohammed Al Dossari.
“However, there were multiple violations registered at the restaurant by inspectors and it was shut down.
“There are official channels for people to submit complaints and suggestions and I urge them to use these channels to highlight issues within efforts to protect everyone in the area.”

“The ministry affirmed that it is continuing its inspection campaigns all over the kingdom.”
Video footage of the unsanitary conditions and improper storage of food items were showcased by the ministry through its official Instagram account.
