THE National Space Science Authority (NSSA) announced the start of registration for the sixth edition of the Space Applications Hackathon Challenge.
The hackathon, which is organised by the NSSA and the US agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), will be held in Bahrain for the first time.
Programmers, scientists, students designers, technicians, storytellers, and those passionate about space sciences and can participate in the challenge.
The NSSA said that the Hackathon will be held at two locations, the first in the University of Bahrain (UoB) in Sakhir and the second in Bahrain Polytechnic in Isa Town on October 7-8.

The NSSA said that the participation in the hackathon includes all ages from all over the world.
Participants will be formed by teams of innovators who use space data available from NASA, to devise solutions to challenges facing the space industry.
The NSSA added that teams must complete their work within 48 hours, highlighting that the idea of the hackathon depends on motivating the participants to invent new ways and ideas. Space data can be presented in the form of applications, games, or innovative technical solutions by the participants.
NSSA CEO Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Al Aseeri said that the authority participates in this event annually, out of its keenness to highlight Bahrain’s position in international forums, noting that the kingdom is the only representative of the Arab countries in this event.
The hackathon will be held in different cities around the world, with 13 space agencies participating in this edition, including NASA, the European Space Agency, the Japanese Space Agency, the Canadian Space Agency, the Brazilian Space Agency, the Italian Space Agency, among others. More than 31,000 people from over 160 countries are expected to participate.
