HORSERACING – Victorious Forever posted a sensational double victory yesterday in a pair of top-class races in the UK.
War Banner triumphed at Newmarket Racecourse while Rizal won at Doncaster Racecourse for the outfit owned by His Majesty King Hamad’s humanitarian work and youth affairs representative and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
War Banner took first place in the Zyn In The Moment British EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Newmarket, competing for trainer Ralph Beckett with jockey Hector Crouch in the saddle.
The two-year-old narrowly claimed the six-furlong event by a neck from runner-up Sexy Chick, who was racing for owner Phil Cunningham and trainer Richard Spencer, while ridden by George Wood.
Acting Lady came third for Godolphin and Charlie Appleby, with Billy Loughnane in the saddle.
Rizal, meanwhile, won the Story Cup Handicap at Doncaster.
The George Scott-trained four-year-old was ridden in the 10-furlong event by jockey Darragh Keenan.
Rizal was in touch with the leaders early and then took the lead after four furlongs.
Keenan did well to maintain their strong stride all the way to the finish to win by three lengths from runner-up Phaedra, competing for owners Hill Top Equestrian Centre Ltd, trainer Joey Ramsden, and jockey Tom Kiely-Marshall.
Dingwall claimed third place for owners G Gibson and Jamie Denholm and trainer Iain Jardine, with jockey Jason Watson in the saddle.
