TENNIS – Bahrain's girls’ and boys’ youth national teams had tough starts to their campaigns in the Arab Under-12 Tennis Championships, currently being held in Cairo, Egypt.
Both squads lost their opening matches 0-3 in their respective groups.
Bahrain’s girls, featuring El Maha Fakeh, Noor Hasan, and Leya Hedar bowed to their counterparts from Tunisia in their contest.
El Maha first lost to Zeinab Harzallah 1-6, 0-6 in their singles clash, and then Noor bowed to Khadija Ben Attia 0-6, 0-6 in another singles affair.
El Maha and Leya then lost 0-6, 0-6 to Tunisia’s Khadija and Meladi Meniem to complete their victory.
Bahrain’s girls are in Group Two of their competition’s preliminary round, which also features Egypt B and Yemen. Group One is composed of Egypt A, Algeria A, Lebanon, and a joint-squad of Palestine and Sudan.
Meanwhile, amongst the boys’, the Bahraini contingent of Abdallah Al Asad, Abas Nabil, and Abdallah Fakeh lost against Egypt A 0-3.
Al Asad suffered a 0-6, 0-6 defeat against Adham Waleed and Abas lost 1-6, 1-6 to Adham Wael in the two singles affairs.
Al Asad and Fakeh then played a doubles match against Waleed and Marwan Moataz and went down fighting 2-6, 0-6.
The Bahraini boys are in Group One of their event, which also features Tunisia. Group Two comprises Egypt B, Lebanon, Algeria, and Palestine.
Bahrain’s delegation in the Egyptian capital is headed by Bahrain Tennis Federation secretary general Fuad Al Rowaie and it includes team administrator Eman Abdulhameed as well as coach Radfan Saif.
