A total of 1,944 animals live in Bahrain, 15 species of which are at risk of extinction, according to figures released by the Supreme Council for Environment. Statistics indicated that birds account for 34.5 per cent of the total animals inhabiting the kingdom, followed by fish (24pc). There are nearly 669 species of birds, 480 species of fish and about 368 species of mollusks. Species at risk of extinction include birds (five species), reptiles (three), mammals (two), invertebrates (two), fish (one) and amphibians (one).
