Education Minister Dr Mohammed Mubarak Juma has mourned the loss of 14-year-old Bahraini student and young footballer Ahmed Osama Adel Khamis Zaman, who was killed in a tragic accident in Hidd.
Dr Juma extended his condolences to Ahmed’s parents, family, friends and schoolmates following the passing of the Arad Preparatory School for Boys student.
In a statement posted on his Instagram account, the minister said he, along with all members of the educational community, shared the family’s grief and extended his deepest sympathy and solidarity to them during this difficult time.
Ahmed was also a promising goalkeeper with Muharraq Club’s Under-14 football team.
The teenager died after an electric scooter he was riding with his 15-year-old friend was involved in a traffic accident on Dry Dock Highway. The friend, identified in online reports as Hidd Club footballer Abdulrahman Al Amer, sustained injuries.
Bahrain’s senior men’s football national team head coach Dragan Talajic expressed his dejection over Ahmed’s death. Talajic said on a social media comment: “I am so sad. Rest in peace, Ahmed Osama.”
Muharraq Club also paid tribute to Ahmed, describing him as its ‘beloved player’ and the goalkeeper of its Under-14 team.
Ahmed was laid to rest yesterday following Maghrib prayers at Muharraq cemetery. The men’s condolence gathering will be held at Juma’an Hall A in Busaiteen today, tomorrow and on Monday, from 9am until Dhuhr prayers and from Asr prayers until Isha. Women will receive mourners at Abdullah Ahmed Naas Mosque in Hidd on the same days from 4pm until Isha.
