I am appalled by the ‘immoral’ comments on social media by so-called intellectuals and scholars on the devastating earthquake in Morocco.
This is even more distressing because some of these comments are by those who have some standing in society. Instead of sympathising with the families of those who perished, praying for a speedy recovery of the injured or taking the initiative to provide material or moral support, we find them racing to make statements that do not reflect the spirit, essence and values of Islam.
May God forgive them all for this. In these difficult humanitarian circumstances, we must sympathise with the victims and provide any possible assistance, whoever they are. As was the case in Türkiye last year, such natural disasters can occur anywhere and no-one knows about this.
It is the duty of every person to contribute to saving what can be saved and help people who suffer from devastating earthquakes and floods etc. Coincidently, devastating floods in Libya have killed thousands of people in the last few days. The situation in Morocco today, where as of now, around 3,000 people have died, is tragic and dangerous as ambulances are unable to reach the wounded because roads are blocked.
His Majesty King Hamad has issued royal directives to provide urgent humanitarian aid and has directed the Royal Humanitarian Foundation, led by the King’s representative for humanitarian works and youth affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to provide the necessary assistance.
This generous guidance is not new to His Majesty as he is the first to lend a helping hand and assistance to everyone and it is undoubtedly the subject of appreciation and gratitude of all the leaders and people of the world. May God protect our country and the world from all evil.
We pray to God Almighty to have mercy on the deceased and to grant a speedy recovery to the injured in Morocco and Libya.
