A one-of-a-kind Ferrari 330 LM/250 GTO has been snapped up at a Sotheby’s auction for a whopping $47 million.
Although it is not the most expensive Ferrari ever sold, the car is special because it is the only one in the world to be raced by the Italian carmaker’s Scuderia Ferrari racing team.
The car, called ‘The One’, is also special for its unique history.
While not born as a 250 GTO, the car was originally a 330 LM and was converted to the GTO specifications.
It also has a celebrated racing history, coming in first in its class and second overall at the 1962 Nürburgring 100km race.
It also competed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans that year, but failed to finish.
Despite its heritage, the car still fell short of being the most expensive Ferrari ever sold. That honour went to a 250 GTO sold privately in 2018 for $78m.
