Bahrain’s Smart Factories initiative was highlighted at a major global conference in China.
Industry and Commerce Ministry assistant under-secretary of industrial development Dr Khaled Al Alawi was speaking at the seventh International Innovative and Entrepreneurial Competition Conference in Shenzhen.
The conference was focused on opportunities in the Middle East and was held from Thursday to Saturday.
He highlighted the Smart Factories initiative and its role in the field of digital transformation and supporting the transformation of the industrial sector towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution by adopting latest digital solutions.
He affirmed Bahrain’s interest in developing the industrial sector and its capabilities to achieve its goals, especially those on strengthening national industries and increasing their efficiency and global competitiveness.
Mr Al Alawi also highlighted the contributions of the industry sector in providing more opportunities for citizens, in line with the objectives of the Industrial Sector Strategy (2022-2026).
Mr Al Alawi said that the ministry, along with its partners in the Smart Factories initiative, began field visits to introduce factories to the evaluation mechanism.
He added that they launched training programmes for accredited assessors to measure the extent of digital maturity of factories based on the adoption of the SIRI index.
He noted that this open dialogue with Chinese institutions aimed to discuss more ways of co-operation.
The conference was organised by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation office in Bahrain and the International Youth Foundation in partnership with the Union of Arab Chambers.
Youth Affairs Minister Rawan Tawfiqi was present.
