The Saudi Roads General Authority (RGA) is working to expand the use of the latest equipment and technologies as part of its strategy to put the kingdom in the sixth place in the road quality index and also reduce the number of deaths on roads to less than five cases per 100,000 people by 2030.
In line with this, the RGA has started using modern equipment to scrape and asphalt roads directly on site, as part of its efforts to adopt the latest technologies to achieve its strategy and encourage innovation, reported SPA.
According to RGA, the machinery scrapes the asphalt, recycles it and paves the site using water to treat the asphalt, instead of heat, which contributes to saving 23% of energy consumption and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
This helps preserve the environment and sustain natural resources, contributes to more efficient spending, saves time and effort, speeds up works, and improves road safety.
The process consists of four stages: scraping 5-10 cm of the top layer of the asphalt, mixing the scraped asphalt with other materials for recycling, placing the recycled asphalt and leveling it on the road, and compacting it to be ready for use.
