VOLLEYBALL – Bahrain powered to a resounding three-set sweep of hosts Jordan last night in the inaugural edition of the Arab Youth Volleyball Championship, taking place in Amman.
The Bahrainis started strong and secured the first set in convincing fashion. They then shrugged off a sluggish start in the second to come from behind for the 2-0 advantage, and rode their momentum into a dominant third frame where they completely deflated their opponents’ spirits. The nationals enjoyed a 3-0 (25-11, 26-24, 25-10) final score line.
The victory was a welcome result for Bahrain as they bounced back from a tough five-set loss to Saudi Arabia in their previous fixture. Prior to that, they had opened the tournament with a win against Libya.
Following a rest day today, the Bahrainis next face off with Qatar tomorrow at 5pm, and then lock horns with Kuwait on Monday at the same time. Their last assignment will be on Wednesday against Iraq at 3pm.
The tournament is being played in league format, and the nationals will need to wait for the completion of the last day’s matches on Thursday to learn of their final ranking.
