Desperate passengers of a British Airways (BA) flight to London were left scrambling for last-minute arrangements after their flight was cancelled yesterday in the early hours of the morning.
BA124 from Bahrain International Airport to London Heathrow was scheduled to depart at 1.20am and land at 6.15am UK time.
BA has not outlined the cause of the service disruption.
Passengers took to social media to express their displeasure, with some of them stating that they woke up to news of their flight being cancelled barely 24 hours before they were set to depart.
One exasperated mother posted on social media that she had been offered the ‘most inconvenient’ of alternative travel options with her daughter having to travel two days later than the rest of the family.
She told friends that she spent five hours on the phone with BA in both the UK and Bahrain before finally speaking to someone ‘who actually gave a hoot’ and by the time they were able to ‘speak to a BA human’ suitable flights were all fully booked.
Instead, the family travelled to Doha, stayed overnight, and took a Qatar Airlines flight to London.
“The good news is that we are all together despite BA’s efforts,” she added.
The online anger continued with another mother saying her son’s BA flight to the UK from Bahrain was cancelled with only 12 hours’ notice.
Another passenger fumed: “When we flew back in June I couldn’t check in online and we were put on ‘standby’ when we got to the airport due to overbooking.
“We only manage to get on by accepting downgraded seats. We had booked the flights in November but that didn’t appear to matter.
“Does anyone actually know why the Heathrow-Bahrain route has had all these problems with cancellations? It seems it’s a game of chance whether your flight will actually happen now!”
Her experience came shortly before two subsequent flights were suddenly cancelled, as reported earlier.
GDN Media attempted to reach out to British Airways for comment but the airline had not responded by the time the newspaper went to Press.
