Two insulin pumps were donated to the Bahrain Diabetes Society by the Good Word Society and Zakat House Kuwait.
These pumps are small, wearable computerised devices that deliver precise amounts of insulin throughout the day and night, helping diabetic patients manage their blood sugar levels more effectively, contributing significantly to the improvement of their overall health and wellness.
There are different types of diabetes and Type 2 diabetes is the most common and is primarily caused by a combination of genetic and lifestyle factors such as obesity, sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits and insulin resistance.
About nine per cent of the population of Bahrain suffer from Type 2 diabetes.
The GDN previously reported that by 2030, the number of people living with diabetes in GCC is likely to rise to a quarter of the region’s population, according to National Health Survey data.
The presentation was attended by Cabinet Affairs Ministry Under-Secretary and Good Word Society honorary president Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Health chairman Lieutenant-General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and Zakat House Kuwait’s external activity department acting director Abdulrahman Al Tarkait.
