The General Sports Authority (GSA) of Bahrain and the Ministry of Sports of Saudi Arabia have established a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the aim of enhancing cooperation in the field of sports.
The MoU was signed in France, on the sidelines of the Paris 2024 Olympics, by Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) first deputy chairman, GSA chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa on behalf of the GSA, and by Saudi’s Minister of Sports and Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC) president Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal Al Saud.
The signing was done in the presence of SOPC vice-president Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, GSA deputy chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Ambassador to France Essam Abdulaziz Al Jassim, GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar, and Saudi’s assistant minister for sports affairs Adwa Abdulrahman Al Arifi.
The MoU aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in the sports field; activate community, Paralympic, women’s, and combat sports; organise sports events including exhibitions, competitions, and championships; qualify athletes; prepare long-term training programmes; and cooperate in a number of areas such as investment, sports marketing, management of sports facilities, and others.
Shaikh Khalid stressed that the MoU is a strategic step towards further strengthening sports relations between the two brotherly countries. He added that it comes within the framework of the common goal of enhancing the exchange of expertise in the sports field.
Shaikh Khalid pointed out that the MoU will open new horizons of cooperation, as it includes many important areas at all levels, in light of the close ties between the two countries and in a way that serves the interests of both in sport.
