An urgent proposal to pump BD500 million into the national state budget 2025-2026 to improve people’s living standards was presented yesterday.
The proposal, by five MPs, is spearheaded by Strategic Thinking Bloc spokesman Khalid Bu Onk.
“The government has been borrowing non-stop, with public debt reaching BD18 billion, but borrowed amounts have never reflected on people’s standard of living,” said Mr Bu Onk.
“By injecting BD500m, we seek more wages and incentives for those working as civil servants, more social welfare schemes and support initiatives, better allowances and more families being given electricity and water subsidies,” he added.
“Additionally, some of this amount could be used to fund the employment of fresh Bahraini graduates in the government sector.
“As legislators, we should seek the best living standards for people and now with the government seeking further borrowing, it could be directed to improving living standards for citizens, who are the core of economic stability and growth in the country.”
