The 2024-2025 camping season in Bahrain will start on November 20 and last until February 20 next year, it has been announced.
Registration will start from November 15 to 25, said Southern Governor Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa yesterday.
He made the announcement as he chaired a co-ordination committee meeting to launch the regulatory mechanism for the popular outdoor activity, and as part of the security preparations for the 2024-2025 camping season.
Over the years, the season generally sees thousands flocking to the site in the south of Bahrain – stretching from Awali to Sakhir – to enjoy the cooler weather, where they either erect or rent tents.
Shaikh Khalifa said the governorate was keen on enhancing the aspect of community, security and environmental co-operation and partnership with the aim of ensuring the organisation of a safe and organised camping season for all desert-goers and campers.
He urged campers to adhere to the requirements and regulations and follow the approved camping season map besides the necessary guidelines and measures for camping, to ensure their own safety and the success of the season according to the highest security, environmental and organisational standards.
Shaikh Khalifa also explained that the governorate was keen to help with the registration mechanism through electronic services and digital initiatives provided by the governorate, such as the digital ‘Khayyim’ initiative, which aims to enhance communication with campers for a safer and more comfortable season.
“The initiative includes mechanism and steps, electronic registration, and learning about all the details related to this year’s season.
“It can be done through the Aljunobya application for mobile devices and smartphones, which is available in both Arabic and English.”
Last year, His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa announced a Best Camp Award with a winner being awarded a cash prize every week.
Shaikh Nasser noted at the time that the award was introduced to maintain public safety at camping sites, and encourage citizens and residents to preserve wildlife and the environment.
He had added that the new award would make campers more conscious about following guidelines around cleanliness and comfort, and called on authorities to create the ideal atmosphere for camping and make the season a success.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Khalifa stressed the importance of obtaining accurate information from official media sources and channels of the governorate.
It should be noted that the governorate welcomes all inquiries and comments through the communication channels regarding the 2024-2025 season via email campers@southern.gov.bh or via phone number 17750000, or via instant chat through the Aljunobya application, or through the National Suggestions and Complaints System (Tawasul).
The camping season co-ordination committee meeting was attended by Deputy Governor Brigadier Hamad Mohammed Al Khayyat, Southern Municipality director-general Isa Abdulrahman Al Sisi Al Buainain, a number of officers representing the security departments at the Interior Ministry and a number of officials in the governorate.
