Claims made by Parliament Second Deputy Speaker Ahmed Qarata on the state’s budget 2025-2026 are baseless, Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam has affirmed.
“Such statements are likely to stir public opinion and affect the course of joint action between the legislative and executive branches. Also, they do not reflect commitment to the rational parliamentary work and the aspired co-operation with the government,” he said yesterday.
Mr Al Musallam explained that Mr Qarata’s expectations about the budget and the figures and information he gave were not discussed at the first meeting with the government.
“As Parliament Speaker and the meeting chairman, I categorically deny all the expectations which have nothing to do with reality,” he said.
“The legislature hasn’t received any detailed information about the budget yet.
“There is direct contact with officials from the government to hold the next joint meeting in the upcoming period,” he noted.
Mr Al Musallam underlined the importance of assuring the public opinion and dealing with it in utter transparency, responsibility and honesty.
“The financial and economic affairs committee hasn’t received any details about the state’s budget 2025-2026. It is still early to talk about these details which have not been revealed yet,” the committee’s chairman Ahmed Al Saloom said.
“The financial and economic affairs committee is concerned with discussing the budget with the government team. Its chairman or deputy will be responsible
for giving any details in co-ordination with the
relevant parties in the legislative and executive branches,” he added.
“It is still early to speak about the details,” he affirmed, underlying keenness on serving the nation and citizens and achieving forecast goals.
