BAHRAIN Chamber health sector committee head Dr Khalid Al Awadhi has emphasised the need to enhance medical training and provide suitable opportunities for Bahraini doctors at private hospitals.
This came during an awareness meeting held by the committee with owners of private hospitals under the theme, ‘Health Competencies’, to discuss the initiative of training doctors within the Saudi-Arab Board Programme and reduce unemployment among doctors.
Dr Al Awadhi stressed the importance of training programmes as part of the chamber’s strategy to boost the health sector’s performance and support the labour market with qualified national competencies.
He said that the private hospitals employ doctors to send them to the public ones as part of the Saudi Board Programme due to the limited capacity of the government hospitals.
“This step aims to qualify doctors to obtain a consultant degree, with agreements signed to ensure their return to work at private hospitals after completing the training period,” he noted.
Dr Al Awadhi also pointed out the importance of introducing a training programme for nursing assistants as part of the chamber’s efforts to increase Bahrainisation in the healthcare sector and address the shortage of nursing staff. “This training programme will help mend the existing gap in nursing personnel, enhance human resources in private hospitals and healthcare centres, and create new job opportunities for citizens,” he said.
“Additionally, it will also contribute to improving the quality of health services in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030,” Dr Al Awadhi affirmed.
