More than 100,000 security-related cases were dealt with by the Interior Ministry last year, according to the latest statistics.
These cases included emergency responses, maritime and traffic incidents and fire reports, said a report published in the February 2025 edition of the ministry’s Al Amn magazine.
The statistics are broken down under the categories of Operations Department, Coastguard Command, Civil Defence Department and the National Ambulance Service.
Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa reaffirmed the ministry’s efforts to help citizens and residents in the country.
“The ministry constantly strives to reinforce the development and modernisation process that aims to keep pace with security challenges in the country,” he told the magazine.
“The best training standards have been adopted to ensure security personnel have high competency and can efficiently promote safety and stability.
“It is not just on land. The Coastguard Command has worked tirelessly to assist seafarers and protect their safety and security, and efficiently deal with regional water protection challenges.”
According to the report, 103,135 cases were dealt with by the ministry last year, more than half of which (56,172) were handled by the National Ambulance Service.
It provided assistance to 37,004 people who required medical attention at their homes or on the spot. An additional 9,732 people were referred for emergency treatment at nearby hospitals.
The ambulance service also rushed to the scene of 4,429 traffic accidents, 4,606 other accidents (for example, cases of heavy objects falling on people) and 399 fire accidents.
Meanwhile, the Operations Department received 28,364 calls and communications. A majority of these cases (18,436) needed immediate response, 8,509 cases were traffic-related incidents while the remaining 1,419 reports were security cases.
As for the Coastguard, it dealt with 1,698 cases, with 972 people being rescued from drowning while swimming or after falling overboard.
The nation’s maritime security organisation was also involved in 541 search-and-rescue operations and 185 accidents at sea, such as boat collisions.
Meanwhile, the Civil Defence dealt with 16,901 cases last year. Most of the reports (8,322) came from people requiring general assistance and aid, followed by 2,250 reports of fire, 1,156 reports of vehicles breaking down and 457 reports of trees, poles and billboards falling.
In an attempt to reduce the number of reports and enhance public safety, the Interior Ministry arranged a number of safety awareness campaigns and drives throughout last year.
A National Civil Protection Platform (www.ncpp.gov.bh) was launched in 2023 to enhance awareness among members of the public.
