A plan is underway to clean and develop a bustling commercial district in the Capital Governorate.
The Capital Trustees Board has unanimously approved plans to tackle abandoned buildings, public cleanliness and park upgrades in Capital Governorate Constituency seven represented by MP Zainab Abdulamir.
It includes the areas of Tubli (Block 709), Jid Ali (Block 721), Jirdab (Block 729), Al Nasfah (Block 733) and Isa Town (816).
The area is famous for the ever-busy Tubli services road and the Jid Ali shopping district.
The board identified several abandoned buildings in Block 721, posing safety and health risks.
Immediate co-ordination with relevant departments is underway to address these hazards. In parallel, road obstructions caused by abandoned vehicles and unauthorised occupation of public pathways were recorded in multiple locations, including Blocks 721, 709, 816, and 733.
Frequent accumulation of waste was reported near buildings in Block 721 and Block 816.
Clean-up operations have already been conducted following collaboration with the sanitation department, with before-and-after documentation indicating significant improvement.
Residents in Blocks 709 and 721 reported sightings of stray dogs, raising concerns for public safety.
Complaints have been escalated to specialised animal control services, while awareness campaigns have been launched to encourage citizen reporting.
Tree trimming near building 2155 in Block 721 has also been conducted to maintain public safety and aesthetics.
Notifications were issued to property owners, with Capital Municipality handling follow-up action.
Renovations
Major renovations are underway in public parks across Jid Ali and Jirdab. These include:
- Installing sunshades over children’s play areas.
- Replacing damaged signage and games.
- Fixing fences, walkways and water leakages.
- Providing benches and pergolas.
- Laying rubber flooring beneath playgrounds.
- Upgrading facilities for individuals with disabilities.
- Enhancing lighting with solar-powered LED fixtures.
Board chairman Saleh Tarradah emphasised the board’s commitment to public safety.
“Abandoned structures and vehicle obstructions are not only unsightly but also a threat to community safety,” he said.
“We are co-ordinating with municipal departments to resolve these issues promptly.
“Green spaces are essential for healthy communities. These park upgrades reflect our broader vision of sustainable and inclusive urban development.”
The board’s services and public utilities committee chairwoman Huda Sultan said residents deserve clean, liveable surroundings.
“Our team is in constant co-ordination with the cleaning department to ensure quick action wherever waste piles up,” she said.
“We’re especially focused on accessibility, safety and preserving the usability of our parks for children, seniors and people of determination.
“The plan for constituency seven signals ongoing co-operation between residents, the municipality and Capital Trustees Board to maintain and upgrade essential services.
“Board members urge the public to continue reporting issues and participating in local development efforts,” she said.
