An event to celebrate inclusion and highlight the potential of individuals with diverse abilities was organised by the Indian Ladies Association (ILA).
‘Inclusivity Matters: An Evening of Inspiration, Resilience and Empowerment’ was held at the Swiss-Belhotel Waterfront in Seef, and attended by community leaders, advocates and families.
Indian Ambassador Vinod Jacob inaugurated the gathering, which featured an inspiring talk by Gopikrishnan Varma, the first Asian actor with Down syndrome, who shared his incredible journey of overcoming barriers to achieve international acclaim.
His mother, Ranjani Varma, spoke about the transformative power of music therapy, offering hope and guidance to families navigating similar challenges.
Children of ILA’s Sneha Recreational Centre performed for the audience, while a panel discussion with experts from the Down Syndrome Society of Bahrain provided valuable insights on fostering inclusivity and empowering individuals with unique abilities.
“This event is a celebration of resilience, creativity and the collective power of our community to make inclusion a reality,” said ILA president Smitha Jensen.
