ATHLETICS – BAHRAIN’S superstar sprinter Salwa Eid Naser is set for a pair of high-level races this weekend in Miami, Florida, in the US.
Naser is set to compete in the Grand Slam Track Miami meeting at Ansin Sports Complex this Friday and Sunday.
On Friday, the former world champion and Paris 2024 Olympics silver-medallist will be part of a star-studded, eight-runner field in the women’s 400 metres. She will be going up against reigning world and Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic, world and Olympic relay champion Alexis Holmes of the US, world indoor champion Amber Anning of Great Britain, Nickisha Pryce and Stacey Ann Williams of Jamaica, and Americans Isabella Whittaker and Kendall Ellis.
Then, just two days later on Sunday, Naser will line up on the blocks for the women’s 200m, where she will be competing against the same quality field.
Naser has so far had a strong start to her 2025 outdoor season. In the Grand Slam Track Kingston meeting held in Jamaica earlier this month, Naser powered to a sensational victory in the 400m while setting the world lead of 48.67 seconds – going below the 49-second barrier for the second time this season.
Her win came after finishing a solid fourth in the women’s 200m at the same meeting, where she ran sub-23 seconds with a 22.99s outing. The two races were less than 24 hours apart.
Naser is one of Bahrain’s leading multi-titled elite athletes. Aside from her 2019 world title, she also bagged the 400m silver medal in Paris last year, which was her first-ever Olympic accolade.
Naser is expected to be one of the kingdom’s top medal hopefuls at this year’s World Athletics Championships, which will be taking place in Tokyo, Japan from September 13 to 21.
The Grand Slam Track Miami event is part of a series of meetings under the Grand Slam Track franchise, which is dedicated to creating the best head-to-head matchups and rivalries for fans globally.
