VOLLEYBALL – BAHRAIN’S under-18 volleyball national team have a tough preliminary round schedule for the 17th edition of the Arab Junior Volleyball Championship.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from August 16 to 25 in Amman, Jordan. The Bahrainis are one of 10 teams competing in this year’s event. They are in Pool B for the opening stage, alongside Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Iraq, and Kuwait. Pool B is composed of the UAE, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, and hosts Jordan.
The nationals are scheduled to begin their medal bid against Kuwait on August 17. They then take on Iraq the following evening, before facing Saudi on August 19. The Bahrainis then lock horns with Palestine on the concluding day of the group stage on August 20.
Following a rest day, the quarter-finals will be held on August 22, which will feature the top four teams from each pool going head-to-head. The semis will then take place on August 23, followed by the final classification games on August 24.
The gold and bronze medal matches will then be played on the last day of action on August 25. The tournament is being organised by the Arab Volleyball Association, chaired by Bahrain Volleyball Association president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.
The kingdom’s junior nationals are currently gearing up for the competition with local training. They recently completed an overseas camp in Egypt as part of the lead-up to their Arab foray. There, they played a number of friendly games.
