THE second edition of the ‘I Am Talented’ Olympic training programme, supported and supervised by Olympic Solidarity, will begin today.
Organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee’s (BOC) equal opportunities and gender balance sports field committee, the initiative aims to nurture national sporting talent among youth aged 10 to 17.
A total of 482 athletes have been selected following talent identification tests. The programme is part of the BOC’s efforts to prepare a new generation capable of representing the kingdom in local and international competitions.
Training will be provided in seven sports: weightlifting, judo, karate, and padel, with a total of 227 participants (137 male and 90 female); along with football, volleyball, and basketball, with 215 participants (80 male and 135 female).
Venues include the weightlifting hall at the Bahrain Paralympic Committee facilities in Riffa, the Bahrain Judo and Karate Federation hall, facilities at Isa bin Rashid Volleyball Arena, and Al Hala Club.
Training will be held daily from 9am to 1pm, with recreational activities from Thursday to Sunday and an entertainment day on Saturdays.
The programme is sponsored by Al Saqi Fresh Water and Ice Factory, Batelco, Dar AlHayat Medical Centre, and Ebrahim Khalil Kanoo Community Medical Centre.
Organisers said the second edition marks a key stage in the national Olympic project to identify and develop champions, contributing to the long term advancement of sport in Bahrain.
