JUDO – BAHRAIN’S senior men’s judo national team will be going for gold in the Amman Asian Open 2025 in Jordan.
The two-day event, taking place today and tomorrow, is being held as part of this year’s International Judo Federation (IJF) calendar. It features 150 judokas, both men and women, flying the flags of 18 countries from four continents and one representing the IJF.
The Bahraini delegation is headed by Bahrain Judo Federation (BJF) board member Abdulla Jassim Al Mannai, and it features seven of the kingdom’s top judokas. They are to be guided by head coach Kamal Khan-Magomedov.
Bahrain’s competitors are Ruslan Poltoratskii in the men’s under-60kg category, Mukhamed Aloev and Ramazan Kodzhakov in the men’s under-73kg division, Gadzhidavud Gasanov in the men’s under-81kg, Israpil Sagaipov in the men’s under-90kg, Said Sadrudinov in the men’s under-100kg, and Azamat Chotchaev in the men’s over-100kg class.
The judokas from the other countries are Burundi, Egypt, France, Great Britain, India, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malta, Montenegro, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Yemen, and hosts Jordan, who have the largest delegation of 62 athletes.
Bahrain’s Poltoratskii, Aloev, and Kodzhakov will be hitting the mat in their respective categories today, starting with the preliminary round at 10am to be followed by the finals from 6.30pm. Gasanov, Sagaipov, Sadrudinov, and Chotchaev are all in action tomorrow, beginning with the preliminaries at 10am and then with the final scheduled for 5pm onwards. All times are Bahrain.
The national team’s participation comes within the framework of the BJF’s commitment to strengthening the presence of Bahraini judo in regional and international championships, and raising the level of the kingdom’s judokas by competing against the world’s best-ranked athletes.
On this occasion, Bahrain Combat Sports Council vice-president and BJF president Dr Faisal Khalid Kanoo affirmed that the Amman Asian Open 2025 represents an important stop on the national team’s journey, as they strive to achieve an honourable level and compete for medals.
“We have confidence in the capabilities of our judokas and their determination to give their best,” Dr Kanoo was quoted as saying.
“The competition is being held at a high technical level, giving our athletes significant experience which will motivate them to further develop.”
Dr Kanoo highlighted that the national team conducted an intensive training programme over the past several weeks to ensure their full readiness for the event.
The Amman Asian Open 2025 is being held along with the Amman Cadet Asian Cup 2025 and the Amman Junior Asian Cup 2025, both of which will take place following the seniors event. There are no Bahraini judokas in either the cadet or junior competitions.
