CYCLING – Team Bahrain Victorious is ready to take on the 20th edition of the Renewi Tour, which gets underway tomorrow in Terneuzen in the Netherlands.
The event, which concludes in Leuven, features five demanding stages, covering 920.4 kilometres and 5,983 metres of climbing. The race is renowned for its tough, aggressive racing style, where positioning is key to success.
Leading the charge for Bahrain Victorious will be Fred Wright and Matej Mohoric, both well-suited to the challenging parcours and targeting the general classification (GC). The pair will be supported by a strong team, including Kamil Gradek, Robert Stannard, Fran Miholjevic, and Daniel Skerl. Completing the line-up is Matevz Govekar, who will be aiming for stage victories should the race come down to sprints – with stage two looking the most likely opportunity.
Bahrain Victorious sports director Michal Golas commented: “We have two leaders with Fred and Matej, and our focus will be on the GC. They’ve recovered well and are in great shape.
“Fred showed his form in Hamburg, and Matevz will also be a factor in the sprints, while playing a key role in helping us secure vital seconds in the Green Kilometre marks, which will be important in the GC fight.
“The two boys coming from the Tour, Kamil and Rob, bring valuable experience in positioning, while Fran will be crucial in protecting our GC contenders. Daniel will provide support for Matevz in the sprints and also contribute in the Green Kilometre battles.
“Overall, we have a solid line-up built around our GC ambitions. However, this race is never straightforward. The opening stage could feature crosswinds, stage two will be hectic, and stages three and five are true GC days – especially the tough finishing circuit on stage three.
“It’s going to be very demanding, and we’ll need to stay switched on every day if we want to fight for the GC.”
