In a smash-and-grab heist, a violent gang of masked men broke into a jewellery store in California, US. They assaulted the 88-year-old shop owner before smashing the display cases, stealing gold and jewellery, and fleeing the scene.
CCTV footage shows the thieves smashing the shop's window with their SUV before multiple masked suspects stormed into the shop.
The thieves are seen breaking through the display cases with axes and hammers before pocketing the gold and jewellery, while one of the suspects shoves the horrified shop owner to the floor.
Moments after the break-in, the SUV's horn is heard, prompting the gang to rush out of the shop.
The owner's friend, Chris Moore, said the 88-year-old was cut by the broken glass when he was pushed and suffered a stroke during the assault.
Moore added that the damage to the shop is estimated to be between $50,000 to $100,000 and that the value of the stolen jewellery has not been revealed.
The shop owner was treated overnight and is in a stable condition.
'An investigation has been launched and no arrests have been made,' a San Jose Police Department spokesperson said. 'The robbers are unidentified and remain at large.'
