The UAE has introduced strict new rules and regulations to protect students against bullying and neglect in schools.
Institutions and staff could face fines of up to AED 1 million, prison terms, and closure if violations are found to have occurred.
The new rules, which apply to both private and public institutions, build on the National Child Protection Policy and now include official hotlines and emergency numbers for reporting violations.
The sanctions arising from the new rules range from a formal warning to fines starting at AED 10,000 and rising up to AED 1 million.
In severe cases, schools and institutions may face suspension or closure, while individuals face up to a year in prison if found guilty of serious harm to students.
