FOOTBALL – The Bahrain Football Association (BFA) and National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) announced yesterday the NBB U21 League Super Cup – a first in the history of the kingdom’s age-group football competitions.
The match is set to be held as part of the 2025-26 under-21 campaign.
It will be played on Tuesday between last season’s league champions Al Najma and cup winners Muharraq at the Abdullah Bin Khalid-Fifa Football Academy stadium at the BFA premises in Riffa.
BFA president Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa praised the significant role played by NBB in supporting Bahraini football, affirming that backing the BFA’s initiatives helps promote the game’s development at all levels.
Shaikh Ali noted that the NBB U21 League Super Cup is a new initiative that comes as part of the BFA’s keenness to develop the kingdom’s young talents in various categories, as they will become the cornerstones of Bahrain’s national team and clubs at the senior level.
Meanwhile, the BFA revealed that it will be hosting around 20 young children with cancer as guests of honour in the match.
NBB chief corporate communications officer Hisham Abu Alfateh emphasised that the NBB U21 League Super Cup highlights the bank’s charitable and community-centred initiatives. In this context, he said that NBB is collaborating with
Smile Society to provide psychological and moral support for children with cancer.
Alfateh stressed on the importance of instilling a charitable culture amongst Bahrain’s youth, stressing that sports are an ideal means to achieve desired goals in this regard.
He added that NBB is proud to launch a first-of-its-kind event that adds to the BFA’s calendar.
He expressed his appreciation of the BFA’s keenness and welcoming of all ideas and projects that contribute to the kingdom’s growth and prosperity.
