HAVING been a resident in Bahrain for more than 10 years I have often participated in Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam’s (BKS) Onam sadhya.
However, this year, for the firs time, I was fortunate enough to get an opportunity to be on one of the team serving the feast; my dress code and colour was similar to others on the team and this got me included to serve the sadhya.
It was a great experience and feeling which does not come from only having the sadhya. To be a part of vegetable-cutting preparation for the two days before the big day was unique and united all well-wishers and really interested people. It was also a memorable day whoever attended this mega feast which is something special in the Gulf, very specially in the Middle East itself.
Serving the Onam sadhya for more than 5,000 people which was prepared under the famous food specialist Pazhayidam Mohanan and his entire team was an honour. All the delicious items were a treat and joy for the participant, culminating in four different kinds of special payasam.
I applaud the Onam celebrations organising committee and the BKS executive team for arranging a well-prepared feast for people in a such cool way in this climate without any inconvenience. No one had to stand in a long queue because of the large seating capacity arranged in a special tent. The courteous reception by the volunteers and the supporting team was also commendable.
The Onam festival and feast ended in a happy mood.
