TENNIS – TOP seed Ahmed Alsayed completed an impressive title double in the Bahrain ATF 16U tournament, which came to a close at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) hard courts in Isa Town.
Ahmed won the boys’ doubles crown with his brother Talal on the penultimate day of the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) tournament, and then capped off a memorable campaign by taking the boys’ singles title. Ahmed lived up to his billing as the number one seed by capturing his singles championship with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Ahmad Sarouji from Saudi Arabia.
Fellow-Bahraini Hashim Altoobli took third place after winning via walkover against seventh seed Ali Alahmad, also from Saudi.
Earlier in the competition, Ahmed and Talal took their doubles title after beating the pair of Parthe Sane from India and Abdulrahman Aldoseri from Bahrain 3-6, 6-2, 12-10 in their final.
Bahraini Sophia Bader completed the list of champions in the event. She won the girls’ singles title after upsetting second seed Fatima Albaajari from Saudi Arabia 6-4, 6-0 in their final.
Ahmed and the tournament’s other winners were presented their respective trophies by BTF vice-president Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, in the presence of other BTF officials.
Another Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) under-16 event will be taking place at the BTF hard courts this week. It is part of a series of exciting, high-level tennis championships that will be held in Bahrain over the next few months at the international, continental, and regional levels.
They are to be headlined by an ATP Challenger Tour tournament, a pair of competitions on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Men’s World Tennis Tour, and the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group V – all of which will be taking place in an action-packed November.
