GOLF – MOHAMMED Sultan Faraj emerged as the overall winner of Awali Golf Club’s October Club Medal.
Faraj claimed his victory after playing a net 65, while also taking the Medal for best gross with 70.
Starting at hole 10, Faraj finished the back nine with an eagle on 18, going to the front nine with a three-under-par gross score. He lost a few shots on the front nine and, playing alongside Nasser Yaqoob Saleh, was tied for best gross coming into the last hole.
Faraj then stepped up to make a birdie to secure the Medal by one shot.
Meanwhile, Saleh Ali Ghadeer won division one with a net 69, including three birdies on the back nine. Lee Mcilear was the runner-up with a net 70.
Matthew Deakin won division two with a net 72, finishing ahead of runner-up Ateeq Mujali who scored a net 73.
Division three was claimed by Dr Chaitanya Kodange with a net 72. In second place with a net 74 was Raghav Talwar, who beat Shuvendu Bhaksi on countback.
Following play, the prizes were handed out by AGC captain Steve Newall and tournament director Rashed Al Qutami.
