VOLLEYBALL – BAHRAIN’S boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams both suffered defeats last night in their opening matches of the third Asian Youth Games.
The boys went down fighting against Pakistan 0-3 (18-25, 24-26, 24-26) in Pool A of their tournament’s preliminary round, while the girls bowed to Iran 0-3 (4-25, 2-25, 2-25) in Pool A of their competition.
Both squads are back in action this evening. The boys’ team face Mongolia while the girls’ spikers take on their counterparts from Qatar.
In other boys’ matches yesterday, Thailand defeated Chinese Taipei 3-1 (19-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-11) and favourites Iran had a rousing start to their title bid with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-12) win over China.
Elsewhere yesterday amongst the girls, Thailand beat South Korea 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-22, 25-16) and China triumphed over Hong Kong 3-1 (25-17, 28-30, 25-22, 25-18).
