FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN clubs Muharraq suffered a narrow defeat last night while Al Khaldiya were held to a goalless draw in the 2025-26 AFC Champions League (ACL) Two.
Muharraq conceded the match winner three minutes from regular time in a 0-1 loss against Al Wasl FC of the UAE at the Late Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa Stadium in Arad.
Adama Diallo was on target for Wasl in the 87th minute. He sent a right-footed effort from the centre of the box to the bottom-right corner of the net, assisted by Serginho, who provided the decisive through-pass.
With the result, Muharraq were dealt their first loss of the competition as they remained on six points in second place on the Group A table. Wasl maintained their unbeaten record in three matches and went to nine points.
Esteghlal FC of Iran defeated Al Wehdat of Jordan 2-0 at home in last night’s other divisional clash.
Meanwhile, Khaldiya played to a goalless draw with PFC Andijon from Uzbekistan at Bobur Arena in the Uzbek city of Andijon.
Following the standoff, Khaldiya remained atop Group B with five points, while Andijon are third on three. Al Ahli SC from Qatar and FK Arkadag from Turkmenistan also claimed a share of the points yesterday in a 2-2 result in Doha.
Both Bahraini sides are back in action on Wednesday next week, with Muharraq away to Wehdat at King Abdullah II Stadium in Amman and Khaldiya at home to Ahli at the Late Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa Stadium.
The ACL Two is the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) second-tier club competition – one level below the AFC Champions League Elite and one above the AFC Challenge League.
