ATHLETICS – CHINA came away with five of the nine gold medals that were on offer yesterday in the athletics events of the third Asian Youth Games at the National Stadium in Riffa.
China’s Haoze Zhang won in the boys’ 5,000 metres walk, Xinyi Wang won in the girls’ discus throw, Huaichu Wu triumphed in the boys’ javelin throw, Jia Wang was victorious in the boys’ 400m, and Jianguang Lai triumphed in the boys’ 100m.
Also winning gold yesterday were Kai-lun Huang from Chinese Taipei in the boys’ high jump, Ryon Hui Kang from North Korea in the girls’ 2,000m steeplechase, Aisha Tariq from the UAE in the girls’ 400m, and Arwa Ashar, also from the UAE, in the girls’ 100m.
