BASKETBALL – BAHRAIN representatives Seef are set to compete in the Abu Dhabi Masters in the UAE, part of this year’s Fiba 3x3 World Tour.
The two-day competition gets underway today in the Emirati capital.
Seef are taking to the half-court with an all-Bahraini quartet of Nasser Al Mosawi, Hasan Fahad, Sayed Mohammed Hameed, and Sadeq Shukrallah.
They have been slotted into Pool C for the competition’s 12-team preliminary round, alongside Amsterdam Rabobank from the Netherlands and Lugano from Switzerland.
Pool A features Ub from Serbia, Baskets Bonn Telekom from Germany, and Taipei WanBao from Chinese Taipei. Pool B is composed of Miami from the US, Carolina from Puerto Rico, and Kanazawa from Japan. Pool D comprises Toulouse from France, Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy from Mongolia, and the winning side from the qualifying draw, which features three squads including Raudondvaris Hoptrans from Lithuania, Skyliners from Germany, and Al Ain from the UAE.
Seef play their first game today against Amsterdam Rabobank at 4.15pm, and then take on Lugano at 8.40pm. Both times are Bahrain.
They need to finish in the top two of their group standings to advance to the knockouts, which will be held tomorrow starting with the quarter-finals.
Seef are making their historic debut this year on the Fiba 3x3 World Tour – having become the first-ever all-Bahraini squad to take part in international street basketball’s premier series under the International Basketball Federation (Fiba). They are still hunting for their first-ever game win.
“I think this first year on the tour we’ve done well – I cannot say a great job – but considering we are playing against very experienced players from around the world,” Seef’s Bahraini coach Murtadha Mohammed told the GDN. “There are so many teams with guys who are a part of their 3x3 national teams and have experience in the biggest events, but I think this is giving us good experience for the future.
“When you play two or three tournaments every month against the great players on the world tour, you must improve. I hope next year we will be better, with the lessons we learned from this first season.”
Abu Dhabi marks the penultimate event on the tour’s 2025 calendar prior to the finale in Bahrain on November 21 and 22, entitled the Manama Final. Another meeting in Bucharest will be held on November 8 and 9 prior to the kingdom’s event. It will be the third time the Fiba 3x3 World Tour visits Bahrain, but the first time for the season’s curtain-closing tournament.
