Alba, one of the world’s largest aluminium smelters, has expanded its partnership with Bahrain-based Array Innovation to launch a new high-tech project focussed on applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to its pot lines.
The initiative, unveiled at the Gateway Gulf 2025 investment forum, aims to deliver cutting-edge AI-powered decision support tools to Alba’s operators, optimising critical reactions in the aluminium reduction process.
The project is specifically designed to enhance operational efficiency by increasing energy efficiency, optimising bath temperature, and extending pot life. These solutions are expected to reduce costs, minimise downtime, and boost process efficiency, while also improving employee safety.
“This new phase of collaboration with Array Innovation accelerates Alba’s digital journey,” said Alba chairman Khalid Al Rumaihi. “By integrating advanced data modelling and AI into our operations, we’re equipping our teams with powerful tools to drive smarter, safer, and more efficient decision-making.”
Alaa Saeed, founder and chief executive of Array Innovation, confirmed the partnership will apply advanced data science and machine learning to innovate on the pot lines. “The collaboration between Alba and Array will generate valuable insights into key processes and reactions inside the reduction cells that will drive efficiency and safety,” Mr Saeed added.
The project forms a core part of Alba’s Industry 4.0 initiatives as the company commits to leading the sector in adopting AI in high-impact areas.
