HORSERACING – RASHID Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) announced yesterday it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Safa, the leading national platform for carbon offsetting.
This pioneering initiative underscores REHC’s dedication to environmental responsibility and sustainability. It also fosters collaboration between the two entities to advance initiatives supporting Bahrain’s objective of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.
The MoU was signed by REHC CEO Yusuf Osama Buheji and Safa Platform CEO Talal Al Araifi.
The initiative forms part of REHC’s ongoing efforts to curb its carbon footprint and strengthen sustainable practices throughout its operations. It reaffirms REHC’s role in promoting community partnership and environmental awareness within the sporting sector.
Buheji stated that the cooperation with Safa Platform reflects REHC’s firm belief in supporting the National Strategy for the Environment. He added that REHC is proud to embark on this initiative with Safa, as it enhances the club’s sustainability standards across all its events and operations. It also capitalises on Safa’s expertise in embedding carbon offsetting strategy within the club’s activities, including international races and championships hosted by the kingdom.
In addition, this cooperation encourages environmental projects that mitigate carbon emissions, such as renewable energy initiatives, and afforestation programs. These efforts aim to generate a lasting positive environmental impact and position REHC as a model for sustainable sports both locally and globally.
Meanwhile, Al Araifi highlighted the significance of this cooperation, which reflects a growing recognition of the need for climate action across all sectors, including sports.
He emphasised that carbon offsetting serves as an effective approach to balance sport activities with environmental preservation by delivering innovative climate solutions and setting new benchmarks for sustainability. This joint effort aligns with the kingdom’s vision to attain carbon neutrality by 2060.
