An Iraqi woman arrested at Kuwait’s Abdali border crossing has been cleared of all charges after authorities uncovered a plot to frame her in a drug smuggling case.
Customs officers initially detained her when 8,000 Lyrica pills were found hidden inside her car’s spare tyre.
However, investigations revealed that her Lebanese ex-husband - previously deported from Kuwait for drug-related offenses - planted the narcotics in her vehicle before her trip.
The woman maintained her innocence, stating that her ex-husband borrowed her car prior to her travel.
Kuwaiti authorities, in coordination with Iraq’s Anti-Narcotics department, apprehended the man, who confessed to orchestrating the scheme.
He admitted working with an accomplice in Kuwait, who planned to follow the woman’s car after she crossed the border, steal the spare tyre, and distribute the drugs.
The accomplice was later arrested and confirmed the plan during interrogation.
Following these revelations, the Iraqi woman was exonerated.
