Alba, the world’s largest aluminium smelter on one site, has become the first aluminium smelter globally in the last five years to achieve the prestigious British Safety Council (BSC) 5-Star certification.
Alba chief executive Ali Al Baqali announced the milestone during his keynote presentation, ‘Setting the Global Benchmark,’ at the 26th Arab International Aluminium Conference (Arabal) in Dubai.
Mr Al Baqali emphasised that the achievement is deeply rooted in the company’s culture. “This 5-Star certification is more than a badge, it’s a reflection of our people, our culture and our purpose,” he added. “At Alba, safety is not just a protocol; it’s a mindset that drives everything we do. This recognition belongs to every Albawee.”
During his presentation, he credited the collaborative spirit across all teams for the company’s leap from a 4-Star to a 5-Star rating.
Mr Al Baqali also celebrated another significant safety milestone: Alba’s ninth consecutive summer with zero heat-related injuries and illnesses, a major feat given the intense heat inherent in the aluminium production process and Bahrain’s high summer temperatures.
The Alba delegation actively participated in the conference, with Mr Al Baqali joining executive panel discussions on industry challenges.
Additionally, Alba’s senior manager of recruitment and labour affairs Rawdha Salman Alaradi served as a panelist for the ‘Women in Industry’ session, highlighting the company’s commitment to empowering female employees and promoting gender diversity in the sector.
