A hotel in China has sparked widespread outrage after introducing a controversial wake-up service that allows guests to play with a lion cub inside their rooms.
Reports indicate that the service is available in 20 rooms, each priced at 628 yuan (BD33) per night.
Guests opting for this experience can interact with the cub for seven minutes between 8am and 10am daily.
To book the service, guests must sign an ‘Asiatic Lion Wake-Up Service Agreement’.
The hotel claims the cub is always supervised by an employee and advises guests to exercise caution during the interaction.
In June, a hotel in Chongqing introduced a ‘red panda wake-up service’.
The concept quickly went viral, but the local forest department shut it down, citing violations of the Wild Animal Protection Law.
Red pandas are classified as a second-class protected species in China, whereas lions and tigers fall under the first-class category.
